Employer FAQ
Should I choose an Indonesian or a Filipino helper?
Start from your family's needs. Families who need English communication or an English-speaking environment for their children often choose Filipino helpers. Families with elderly members who mainly speak Cantonese often choose Indonesian helpers, who usually receive Cantonese training before arrival. Every helper's experience and personality is different, so we arrange interviews for you to learn about each candidate's work experience and communication skills directly.
What is the minimum wage for foreign domestic helpers?
The government has announced a Minimum Allowable Wage of HK$5,220 per month for contracts signed on or after 3 October 2026. If the employer does not provide free food, a food allowance of at least HK$1,236 per month must also be paid. Contracts signed on or before 2 October at the previous wage level must be submitted to the Immigration Department on or before 30 October 2026.
Is there a minimum income or asset requirement for employers?
Employers' households are generally required to have a monthly income of at least HK$15,000, or equivalent assets, and must provide proof of address and income to show they can pay the helper's wages and related costs.
Do employers need to insure their helper?
Yes. The Employees' Compensation Ordinance requires employers to take out employees' compensation insurance for their helper. The Standard Employment Contract also requires employers to provide free medical treatment, so we recommend a domestic helper comprehensive insurance plan covering both employees' compensation and medical care, to reduce the risk of unexpected medical costs.
Can I change helpers during the contract?
Yes. Either party may end the contract early by giving one month's written notice or payment in lieu of notice, in line with the contract terms. The employer must notify the Immigration Department within 7 days of termination. We will re-match based on your family's needs (for example, experience caring for children, the elderly or pets) and help with the related visa and contract procedures.
The information above is current as of October 2026 and is for reference only. The latest announcements from the Labour Department and the Immigration Department prevail.
